Intensive pronoun
also known as an emphatic pronoun, is a pronoun that emphasizes or intensifies a noun or pronoun in a sentence. It adds emphasis to the subject or object and is not necessary for the sentence's grammatical structure.
Examples of intensive pronouns include "myself," "yourself," "himself," "herself," "itself," "ourselves," "yourselves," and "themselves." These pronouns are used after a noun or pronoun to emphasize that person or thing. For example:
- I myself will take care of the situation.
- He himself confessed to the crime.
- The dog itself knocked over the vase.
- We ourselves are responsible for our actions.
- You yourselves need to find a solution.
- They themselves completed the project.
In these examples, the intensive pronouns are used to emphasize the subjects or objects of the sentences. However, removing the intensive pronouns would not change the sentence's grammatical structure or meaning. They are simply used to add emphasis.
