Philip scarcely had read three chapters when he found out the library book was overdue.

Frustrated, Philip quickly checked the due date slip in the book and saw that it was already three days past the return date. He couldn't believe he had let the time slip away, immersed in his studies and forgetting about the borrowed book.

Panicking, Philip rushed to gather his belongings, stuffing the unfinished book into his bag without even bothering to bookmark the page he had left off. He knew he had to return it as soon as possible to avoid any late fees or further consequences.

Unable to concentrate on his studies, Philip made his way to the library, feeling a mix of guilt and anxiety swirling inside him. As he approached the circulation desk, he mustered up a sheepish smile and handed the book to the librarian, apologizing for the delay.

The librarian, a middle-aged woman with kind eyes, looked at the book and checked the system. Her expression softened as she noticed Philip's genuine remorse. "It happens to the best of us," she said, reassuringly. "Though it's essential to be more mindful of due dates. I'll waive the late fees this time, but please try to return books on time in the future."

Relieved and grateful, Philip thanked the librarian profusely. Promising to be more responsible, he quickly made his way back home, feeling a renewed determination to finish the book before its due date next time.
