What clean water regulation do you think has had the greatest impact on water quality in the United States? In a 3–5 sentences, explain and justify your opinion.(4 points)

In my opinion, the Clean Water Act of 1972 has had the greatest impact on water quality in the United States. This regulation established a comprehensive framework for regulating pollutants in the nation's waterways and set up an ambitious goal of eliminating the discharge of pollutants into navigable waters by 1985. The Act also led to the creation of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), which regulates the discharge of pollutants from point sources. The strict enforcement of this regulation and the subsequent implementation of pollution control measures have significantly improved the water quality in the United States over the past few decades.
