After the Civil War, Black Americans in Texas faced numerous obstacles to achieving equality. These included widespread racism and discrimination, both at the individual and institutional level, which limited their access to education, employment, and political participation. Additionally, the implementation of discriminatory laws, such as the Jim Crow laws, further reinforced racial segregation and denied Black Americans their civil rights.
