Function of platelet

The main function of platelets (also known as thrombocytes) is to form blood clots to stop bleeding. When there is an injury to a blood vessel, platelets quickly adhere to the site and aggregate together to form a plug, which helps in preventing further blood loss. Additionally, platelets release chemical factors that promote the formation of a fibrin mesh, which strengthens the clot and helps in tissue repair. Platelets also play a role in inflammation, wound healing, and immune response.
