What is spot color

Spot color refers to a specific ink color that is used in printing, typically a premixed ink that is applied to the printing press as a separate ink station or plate. It is used to achieve precise and consistent color results, especially when printing designs that require specific colors or branding elements.

Unlike process colors (such as CMYK), which are created by blending various percentages of four primary colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black), spot colors are pre-mixed and have their own unique ink formula. This allows for more accurate color reproduction and consistency across different printing processes and substrates.

Spot color is commonly used in logo printing, branding materials, Pantone color matching, and when printing specific colors that cannot be accurately reproduced using process colors alone. It is often chosen for its ability to provide vibrant and consistent results, making it a popular choice in commercial printing and packaging industries.
