As you moved through the course, you have created quite a bit of art. Maybe you were already an active artist, and the course has given you an opportunity to try some new techniques. Either way, you should have a good collection of art to choose from for your portfolio. It's a bit of work to put a portfolio together; but, remember, most of it is choosing from work that you have already completed
Before you assemble the art, you're going to need to create two more pieces to include. Like a required essay question, portfolios often require you to complete a specific assignment.
So, to demonstrate your full grasp of the digital arts, create the following
• A work that uses a new sign or symbol to create a message. There are visual messages everywhere, like no smoking signs or those who tell people to keep off the grass. Create a sign that communicates a message without words. It needs to be completely original, so find an innovative way to give people directions using only images. Feel free to be creative. Perhaps you want to explain how to eat an ice cream cone or walk a dog. You can choose whatever you want, just be sure that you use images to get your message across. work of mixed media or multimedia art. This is another opportunity to be creative. If vou want, you can combine some of the works of art that you have already created. Or vou can create a collage using many different materials. You can photograph your work if it is 3D or make a video of it if it has digital elements that will show better when recorded than on still photography. You will also need to submit three other pieces, in addition to the two noted above. These can be works you have created during the course, like your animated character or the photography pieces. Or, if you developed some particularly good sound effects, you could include those too. If you already have many works of your own art to choose from, you can include those as well. However, make sure that the works you submit meet the following criteria:
• Your portfolio must contain at least four different types of art So, you will be submitting at least five pieces, but they need to represent at least four different types of art
• One piece of art should be the one that you think would be best reviewed by critics.
• At least two pieces should represent forms of digital arts Portfolio Description (Part 2)
When you have chosen the works for your portfolio, write a brief portfolio introduction. Often, when you submit a portfolio, you are not there to explain it. This description should give a little background about you and discuss your art. Be sure that this document is professional, meaning that you have proper paragraphs that pay attention to grammar and spelling.
Your portfolio discussion should cover the following:
• The kind of digital art that interests you the most
• Any artists that inspire your work and that you admire
• Which piece was the easiest? What about it made it so easy?
• Which piece was the most challenging? How did you work through the challenges and what do you like about it now?
• Which piece best demonstrates the Principles of Art?
• How has this course helped you evolve as an artist? What has changed in your art since vou began it?
Portfolio Presentation (Part 3)
If you are interested in applying to any art programs, you now have some of the basic tools to do so! But there is one more step. Artists also need to be comfortable talking about their work, and that can be hard. To get a little practice, you are going to arrange a mini art show.
It can be small, just two or three close friends or family members, but you need to share your art. Ask one of those attending to make a video that you can download and submit.
The good news is that you have already done all the work. By completing the portfolio and description of it, you have assembled your best work and come up with some great things to say about it. However you don't want to stand there and read our description. Put the information on note cards or practice what you want to say enough that you are comfortable just talking about your art. Your presentation will be better if you make eye contact with your audience instead of staring down at a piece of paper. So be sure to speak loudly and clearly as well.
Your audience has a bit of a job too. Ask them to come up with one or two questions for you Any interviewer will have questions, so you should get used to discussing your art. Answer questions thoroughly One-word answers don't provide much information, so be prepared to discuss your art. In addition, there are generally opportunities for audience members to ask questions when an artist hosts an exhibit. It's all part of an artist's life!
Just to recap, this is what you are turning in for your final project. • A portfolio with five works of original art that meets the assigned requirements
• A one to two-page description of the portfolio
• A recording of an "art show" where you present your art to an audience. The video should include your presentation and the questions and answers afterwards
For my portfolio, I have selected five works of original art that showcase my skills and creativity in different forms of digital art. These pieces represent various techniques and concepts that I have learned and explored throughout the course.
I am particularly interested in digital illustrations and graphic design. I enjoy creating vibrant and visually appealing compositions that convey a story or message. The ability to manipulate colors, shapes, and textures in digital art fascinates me and allows me to bring my ideas to life.
There are several artists who inspire and influence my work. One of them is Salvador Dali, known for his surreal and dreamlike paintings. His unique perspective and imaginative compositions have encouraged me to push the boundaries of my own creativity. Another artist I admire is Lisa Congdon, a talented illustrator and pattern designer. Her use of bold colors and intricate details has influenced my own approach to composition and storytelling.
Among the pieces in my portfolio, I found one to be the easiest to create. It was a digital collage combining elements from various artworks I had previously created. This piece came together effortlessly as I already had the elements I wanted to include and simply had to arrange them in a visually pleasing way. The familiarity and comfort I had with the materials made the process much smoother.
On the other hand, one piece proved to be the most challenging. It was a mixed media work that combined digital elements with physical materials such as paper and fabric. The challenge lied in finding the right balance between the digital and the physical, ensuring that they complemented each other harmoniously. I had to experiment with different techniques and materials to achieve the desired result. However, overcoming these challenges was rewarding, and I am proud of the final piece and how it pushes the boundaries of traditional art forms.
One piece that I believe best demonstrates the Principles of Art is a digital illustration I created. I focused on the principles of balance, contrast, and unity to create a visually harmonious composition. By strategically placing elements, using contrasting colors, and achieving a sense of cohesion, I was able to create a striking and visually compelling artwork.
Taking this course has significantly helped me evolve as an artist. Prior to starting the course, I had a limited understanding of digital art techniques and tools. Through the lessons and assignments, I have gained a deeper understanding of different forms of digital art and how to effectively use various software and applications. I have also learned to think critically about composition, color theory, and the overall message I want to convey through my art. The course has expanded my artistic skills and broadened my perspective on what is possible in the digital art world.
In conclusion, this portfolio represents my growth and exploration in different forms of digital art. It showcases my passion for visual storytelling, experimentation, and pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. I am excited to share my art with others and continue to develop my skills as an artist.
