Some Tejanos supported Texas independence because they felt marginalized and discriminated against by the Mexican government. They believed that an independent Texas would give them more rights and opportunities for economic and social advancement. Additionally, many Tejanos had already shown loyalty and support to the Anglo settlers and leaders who were leading the fight for independence, so aligning themselves with the cause made sense for their own self-interests. Their support for Texas independence also represented a desire for greater political autonomy and the chance to shape their own destiny.
