What is a compound-complex sentence?

A compound-complex sentence is a sentence that contains two or more independent clauses (compound) and at least one dependent clause (complex). In other words, it is a combination of two types of sentences: compound sentences and complex sentences.

Compound sentences consist of two or more independent clauses that are joined by coordinating conjunctions such as "and," "but," or "or". Complex sentences, on the other hand, contain at least one independent clause and one dependent clause that cannot stand alone as a complete sentence.

The combination of these two sentence structures in a compound-complex sentence allows for greater complexity and a more extensive expression of ideas.
