What is the difference between weather and climate? (short answer an 8th grader would write)

Weather refers to the conditions of the atmosphere in a particular place and time. It includes things like temperature, precipitation, wind speed, and humidity. Weather changes quickly and can vary from day to day.

Climate, on the other hand, refers to the average weather conditions in a specific region over a long period of time, usually 30 years or more. It takes into account patterns and trends in weather and helps us understand what to expect in terms of temperature, rainfall, and seasons. Climate doesn't change as rapidly as weather and is more predictable.
