1) Model United Nations (MUN)
I have actively participated in MUN conferences and plan to continue doing so in the future. MUN involves in-depth research, public speaking, and negotiation skills. By participating in MUN, I have been able to enhance my oral communication skills through delivering speeches, participating in debates, and engaging in discussions with other delegates. This platform has provided me with opportunities to express my thoughts clearly and coherently, while also learning to listen to opposing viewpoints and construct persuasive arguments both in support of and against certain resolutions. Additionally, the written communication aspect of MUN comes into play by developing position papers, writing resolutions, and drafting working papers. These activities have truly strengthened my ability to convey my ideas and opinions effectively through written mediums.
2) Debate Society
I have actively participated in the Debate Society in my school, and I plan to continue my involvement in this activity. Debating requires excellent oral communication skills, as participants must present their arguments in a structured and persuasive manner. By taking part in debates, I have learned to think on my feet, respond to counterarguments, and present my ideas coherently and convincingly. Engaging in debates has expanded my vocabulary, improved my articulation, and enhanced my eloquence. Furthermore, debates often involve researching and analyzing different viewpoints, which has allowed me to apply my written communication skills as I prepare arguments, rebuttals, and evidence to support my claims. Writing briefs, outlining arguments, and practice speeches are all pivotal aspects of debate that strengthen my written communication skills.
Both MUN and the Debate Society have provided me with valuable opportunities to develop and apply my oral and written communication skills. Through these activities, I have honed my ability to express ideas clearly, persuade others, and engage in constructive discussions or debates. These skills not only benefit me academically but are also crucial in the professional world, where effective communication is highly valued.
