epigenetics are different than mutations in that mutations:

cannot be inherited
can change DNA sequences
can be inherited
can change traits

Mutations can have different effects, but generally, they can change DNA sequences and can also be inherited. However, not all mutations necessarily lead to changes in traits. Epigenetics, on the other hand, refers to alterations in gene expression patterns that occur without changing the underlying DNA sequence. These changes can also be inherited, but they are not the result of alterations in the DNA sequence itself.
