Which type of mutation causes cystic fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is primarily caused by a mutation known as the CFTR gene mutation. Specifically, it is caused by a deletion of phenylalanine at position 508 in the CFTR gene, resulting in the production of a defective or non-functioning cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein. This mutation is commonly referred to as the ΔF508 mutation.
