Some Tejanos supported Texas independence because they faced discrimination and limited opportunities under Mexican rule. They believed that independence would lead to more political and economic freedom, as well as protection of their rights. Additionally, many Tejanos resented the centralist policies of the Mexican government and saw Texas independence as a way to have local control and self-governance.
