During mitosis, the parent cell divides into two daughter cells. The parent cell replicates its DNA and then equally distributes the genetic material to the daughter cells. Each daughter cell receives an identical set of chromosomes as the parent cell. Therefore, mitosis results in the production of two daughter cells from a single parent cell.
