Independent variables are the variables in an experiment or study that are manipulated or changed by the researcher. They are not influenced by any other variables in the experiment and are used to determine or measure the effect or impact on the dependent variable. Independent variables are typically graphed on the x-axis in a research study. Examples of independent variables could be the dosage of a medication given to a patient, the type of instruction provided to students, or the temperature in an experiment.
