In an informational piece of writing, what should the author’s purpose be? (hint: think PIE!)

The author's purpose in an informational piece of writing should be to inform or educate the reader about a specific topic. The acronym PIE can help to remember the three main purposes of informational writing:

P - Persuade: The author tries to convince the reader to agree with their point of view or take a specific action.

I - Inform: The author provides facts, details, and explanations to educate the reader about a particular topic.

E - Entertain: While entertainment is not usually the primary purpose of informational writing, the author may use engaging storytelling techniques or anecdotes to make the information more enjoyable to read.
