Peritoneal

Peritoneal refers to the peritoneum, which is a membrane that lines the abdominal cavity and covers the organs within it. The peritoneum helps to support and protect the abdominal organs, while also allowing for movement and interaction between them. Peritoneal also refers to the medical procedure of peritoneal dialysis, which is a method of filtering and cleansing the blood when the kidneys are unable to function properly. During peritoneal dialysis, a special fluid is introduced into the peritoneal cavity through a catheter, and waste products are removed from the blood by diffusion and osmosis through the peritoneal membrane.
