One of the influences of the Roman Republic in the framing of the constitution was the concept of a mixed government system. The Framers of the United States Constitution drew inspiration from the Roman Republic's division of power among different branches of government, consisting of an executive branch (consuls), a legislative branch (Senate), and a judiciary branch (praetors). This model of separation of powers and checks and balances was incorporated into the structure of the U.S. government to prevent the concentration of power in any one person or group.
