Identify the similarities and differences in your "point in time" images.

The 2020 image has more trees near the shore line and a lake in the bottom left corner, surrounded by an open space with no trees, the water also looks shallower near the beach and there is less sand near the top of the beach.

Both images have buildings and development near the top of the island and trees near the bottom of the island, they also both have similar sized beaches on the east coast of the island.

Explain the patterns and trends from your two images (consider the development of the island and need for economic growth)

Over the years, there have been more land cleared and buildings built, like housing, shops and places to work. There have also been more roads in the town however, the roads around the town are less visible, possibly due to the fact that vegetation has grown back over most of the road because people won't have to leave the town as much.

The landscape has also changed, besides the extra vegetation, there is also a lake which suggests that there is more water in the area.

These changes in the landscape and developmental areas are likely because of the increase in population, therefore they need more places to live/work and also have more people to build these buildings.

Explain the relationship between the liveability of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) and the trends in your point in time images.

The liveability of the island is determined by the landscape and man-made features. Many buildings on the island look more grey, which can indicate that they are more modern and more common than the few brown buildings in 1984. These new buildings may be hospitals, shops, houses, apartments, cafes, which will increase the liveability of the area, there is also a lake which will add to the liveability because it is a natural feature.

These changes have clearly affected the liveability of the area, this is clearly the case because the roads leading away from the town are less visible because vegetation has grown over, meaning that people are less likely to leave the town because they have everything the need and have no reason to leave.

Explain patterns in your survey data (consider responses from the same age, gender etc.)

Some patterns in my survey data are that most girls said no to the proposed solution, whereas most boys said yes to the proposed solution. I only interviewed non-indigenous people so I am unsure whether this has an effect on their answers.

Explain the community attitudes and perceptions of Whale on a Hill identified in your survey data.

According to my data, there is an even number of people who want the proposal to go ahead and people who don't. Most girls said no to the proposed solution, whereas most boys said yes to the proposed solution, this may be because girls think about the problem in more details and boys see it more simply. The main reason for people not wanting the proposal to happen is because of the affected indigenous community, wildlife and land and the main reason for wanting the proposal to happen is being able to visit the structure, the reason the votes are equal is most likely because people see these consequences as equal value.

The survey data shows that community attitudes and perceptions of Whale on a Hill are divided. Some people are in favor of the proposed solution, while others are opposed. A significant pattern in the data is that girls are more likely to say no to the proposal, while boys are more likely to say yes. This could be due to different ways of thinking about the problem, with girls considering the potential negative impacts in more detail and boys seeing the proposal more straightforwardly. The main reasons for opposing the proposal are concerns about its impact on the indigenous community, wildlife, and land. On the other hand, the main reason for supporting the proposal is the opportunity to visit the structure. The equal number of votes for and against the proposal suggests that people see the potential consequences as having equal value.

The liveability of the island is determined by the landscape and man-made features.

The images show similarities in terms of the presence of buildings and development near the top of the island, as well as trees near the bottom and similar-sized beaches on the east coast. However, the 2020 image has more trees near the shoreline, a lake in the bottom left corner, and less sand near the top of the beach.

The patterns and trends in the images indicate that there has been an increase in land clearance and building construction over the years. This includes housing, shops, and workplaces. There are also more roads in the town, although they are less visible due to vegetation growth, potentially because people do not need to leave the town as often. Additionally, there are more vegetation and a lake, suggesting an increase in water sources in the area. These changes can be attributed to population growth and the need for more residential and commercial spaces.

The trends in the images have implications for the liveability of Minjerribah. The presence of modern, grey buildings indicates improved infrastructure and facilities, such as hospitals, shops, houses, apartments, and cafes, which enhance the liveability of the area. The lake also adds to the liveability as a natural feature. The changes, including the overgrown roads, suggest that people are less likely to leave the town because they have access to all the necessary amenities, enhancing the overall liveability of the area.

In summary, the two "point in time" images show similarities and differences. The 2020 image has more trees near the shore line, a lake in the bottom left corner, and less sand near the top of the beach compared to the other image. Both images have buildings and development near the top of the island, trees near the bottom, and similar sized beaches on the east coast.

The patterns and trends observed are related to the development of the island and the need for economic growth. Over the years, there has been more land cleared, buildings constructed (such as housing, shops, and workplaces), and roads built. The roads around the town are less visible due to vegetation growth, which suggests that people are staying within the town more frequently. There is also more vegetation and a lake, indicating an increase in water in the area. These changes likely result from an increase in population, necessitating more infrastructure and services.

The liveability of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) is influenced by the observed trends in the images. The presence of modern, grey buildings suggests improved liveability as they may include amenities such as hospitals, shops, houses, apartments, and cafes. The lake also adds to the area's liveability. Additionally, the overgrown roads leading away from the town imply that people have access to everything they need locally, enhancing liveability.

Regarding the survey data, there are patterns based on gender. Most girls responded negatively to the proposed solution, while most boys responded positively. However, it is important to note that the survey only included non-indigenous individuals, so the impact of indigenous perspectives on the responses is unknown.

The survey data indicates a mixed community attitude and perception towards "Whale on a Hill." Equal numbers of people are in favor and against the proposal. The main reasons for opposition are concerns about the indigenous community, wildlife, and land. On the other hand, those in favor highlight the desire to visit the structure. The equal distribution of votes suggests that people perceive these consequences as having equal importance.
