Fusion

Fusion is the process by which two or more atomic nuclei come together to form a single, more massive nucleus. This process releases a tremendous amount of energy, as the mass of the resulting nucleus is less than the sum of the masses of the original nuclei. Fusion reactions are the source of energy for the sun and other stars, and scientists are working to develop practical fusion power as a clean, abundant energy source here on Earth. Current fusion research focuses on magnetic confinement of hot plasma, with experiments taking place in tokamaks and other fusion reactors around the world.
