What is a proportional?

A proportion is a mathematical equation that states that two or more ratios are equal. It is used to compare two or more variables and their relationship to each other. In a proportion, the two ratios are compared using a colon (:) or a fraction bar (/). For example, 2:4 is a ratio and can be written as a proportion by comparing it to another ratio, such as 4:8. This can be expressed as:

2:4 = 4:8 or 2/4 = 4/8

In a proportion, the cross-products are equal. If the proportion is true, the cross-products will be equal. If the proportion is false, the cross-products will not be equal.
