2 causes of desertification and explain them

1. Overgrazing of vegetation - When large numbers of livestock are allowed to graze on a particular area of land, they consume all the vegetation and prevent new growth. This leaves the topsoil exposed to wind and water erosion which leads to soil degradation and desertification.

2. Deforestation - Trees and vegetation are essential in maintaining soil stability and moisture retention. When trees are cut down or cleared for agricultural purposes, the ground is left bare and becomes susceptible to erosion. The land loses its ability to hold water and maintain fertility, leading to desertification. Additionally, deforestation reduces the amount of carbon dioxide that is taken in by forests, leading to an increase in carbon levels and global warming.
