The 1946 Georgia Governor's Race was a contested race between Eugene Talmadge, Ellis Arnall, and James V. Carmichael. Eugene Talmadge won the primary election, but he died before he could take office. In response, the Georgia General Assembly authorized a special election, which Arnall won. However, Talmadge supporters challenged Arnall's victory and the Georgia Supreme Court eventually ruled in their favor, declaring Talmadge the winner.
