What were the main causes of the American Revolution?

The main causes of the American Revolution were the imposition of taxes by the British government without the consent of the colonists, the restriction of civil liberties, and the stationing of British troops in the colonies. Other factors that contributed to the Revolution included the colonists' desire for self-governance, the legacy of colonial political ideas, and the influence of Enlightenment philosophy.
