In Chapter 19 of The Giver, the reader meets two new characters: Rosemary and the Chief Elder. Rosemary is a Giver, like the protagonist, Jonas, and she is the one who trained him. The Chief Elder is the leader of the community and is the one who assigns jobs to the citizens.
