Different ways that both photosynthesis and cellular respiration contribute to the carbon cycle

Photosynthesis and cellular respiration both contribute to the carbon cycle by exchanging carbon dioxide and oxygen. During photosynthesis, plants take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use energy from the sun to convert it into glucose. Oxygen is released as a byproduct. During cellular respiration, organisms break down glucose and other organic molecules to release energy, and in the process, they release carbon dioxide and take in oxygen. This exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen helps to maintain the balance of these two gases in the atmosphere.
