Emperor Tewodros II attempted to reunify the highland Christian states by using military force. He sought to bring the various Christian states under his rule and to create a unified Christian kingdom in Ethiopia. He also sought to modernize the country by introducing new technologies and reforms. He also sought to strengthen the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and to promote its teachings.
