Were President Jhonson's reconstruction plans bad?

President Johnson's Reconstruction plans were controversial and had both positive and negative aspects. On the positive side, Johnson's plans allowed for the reintegration of the Confederate states into the Union and provided amnesty to former Confederate leaders. On the negative side, Johnson's plans did not provide any civil rights protections for African Americans, and they allowed for the continuation of the Black Codes, which limited the rights of African Americans. Ultimately, Johnson's Reconstruction plans were seen as inadequate by many, and they were eventually replaced by the more comprehensive Reconstruction plans of President Ulysses S. Grant.
