During the American Revolution, there were high concentrations of loyalists in New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley. These areas were home to many British merchants and other supporters of the British Crown. In addition, many of the Iroquois tribes in upstate New York were loyal to the British, and there were also large numbers of loyalists in the Mohawk Valley.
