what did Harriet Tubman do

Harriet Tubman was an African-American abolitionist and political activist. She was born into slavery in Maryland, but escaped to freedom in 1849. She then devoted her life to helping other enslaved people escape to freedom via the Underground Railroad. She also served as a nurse, spy, and scout for the Union Army during the Civil War. After the war, she continued to advocate for the rights of African Americans, women, and the elderly.
