Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, serving from 1861 until his assassination in 1865. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest presidents in American history. During his time in office, he led the nation through the American Civil War, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the U.S. economy. He also gave some of the most famous speeches in American history, including the Gettysburg Address.
