Role of the pistil in a flower

The pistil is the female reproductive organ of a flower. It consists of the stigma, style, and ovary. The stigma is the sticky tip of the pistil that receives pollen from the male reproductive organ, the stamen. The style is the stalk that connects the stigma to the ovary. The ovary contains the ovules, which are the female reproductive cells. When the pollen from the stamen reaches the stigma, it travels down the style to the ovary, where it fertilizes the ovules. This process is known as pollination and is necessary for the flower to produce seeds and reproduce.
