Lukas has a collection of coins that consists of quarters, dimes, and nickels. The ratio of quarters to dimes to nickels is 4:3:5. If Lukas has a total of 60 coins, how many of each type of coin does he have?

Lukas has 24 quarters, 18 dimes, and 18 nickels.

as usual, the canned answer is wrong .....

quarters --- 4x
dimes ----- 3x
nickels --- 5x , notice 4x : 3x : 5x = 4 : 3 : 5

4x + 3x + 5x = 60
12x = 60
x = 5

so 20 quarters, 15 dimes and 25 nickels
which is 20:15:25 = 4:3:5

the "digital tutor" has a ratio of 24:18:18 = 4:3:3
