What is the purpose of the and +PGLO LB plates in the transformation exercise?

The and +PGLO LB plates are used to select for bacteria that have been successfully transformed with the desired plasmid. The LB plates contain ampicillin, which is an antibiotic that kills bacteria that have not been transformed. The +PGLO plate also contains a gene that codes for the enzyme β-galactosidase, which is used to detect successful transformation. Bacteria that have been successfully transformed will be able to express the β-galactosidase enzyme, which will cause the plate to turn blue.
