The Arenal Volcano is an active andesitic stratovolcano located in north-western Costa Rica, around 90 km northwest of San José, in the province of Alajuela. It is one of Costa Rica's most active volcanoes, having erupted frequently since the mid-1960s. It is conically shaped with a crater 140 m in diameter.
