Social mobility in Port Clinton in the middle of the 20th century was limited. The city was largely segregated by race and class, and there were few opportunities for upward mobility. The majority of the population was working-class, and the few middle-class jobs available were often held by white people. The city was also largely divided along religious lines, with Catholics and Protestants living in separate neighborhoods. As a result, it was difficult for people to move up the social ladder.
