Most calculators have the constant π built in as one of the functions
In the "olden days" it was common to use 22/7 as an approximation, but since the early 1970's
we can rely on calculators to give us a more accurate value.

So in your case, you know d = 12
so the circumference = 12π or appr 37.699
if you use 22/7 you get 37.714, notice the loss of accuracy.
