If Annie has 3/4 of a pizza and eats 2/3 of the pizza, how much pizza does she have left.
(A) 1/12****
(B) 3/12
(C) 1/3
(D) 1 5/12
1/12
Wait by 2/3 of the pizza, does it mean 2/3 of the 3/4, or 2/3 of the whole pizza?
I think 2/3 of the 3/4.
If you draw a pizza with 3/4 left, that is 3 pieces still on the pan, then sub divide each of those three pieces into three pieces, and eat 2 of each of those three pieces, for each of the three pieces. YOu have one sliver left (1/3) of each of the three original pieces on the pan.
Now the pan is now cut into 12th since you had 4th then cut them into thirds, so the original pan would have been cut into 12th (that is, 12 slices).
And you are left with 3 slices : )
3/12
which does reduce...
3/12 reduces to 1/4.
Poorly worded problem, which leads to mis-interpretation
It said she has 3/4 of a pizza, let's assume there were 12 slices so she has 9 slices
it said she ate 2/3 of the pizza, so she ate 8 slices
Doesn't that mean she has 1 slice left?
or she has 1/12 of the original pizza left
