How did the colonial view of the nature of the British Empire differ from the view by George III and his supporters?

In general, colonial peoples under the British Empire saw it as an intrusive dictatorship, taking what it wanted and giving little back to the colonists. George III and Parliament believed that they were receiving only what was owed them.
