a. One piece of literature from this semester that I identified strongly with is "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. The theme of alienation and the search for authenticity really resonated with me. I could relate to Holden Caulfield's feelings of not fitting in and his struggle to navigate the complexities of growing up. One specific example that supports my choice is Holden's constant desire to protect the innocence of children, as I too often find myself nostalgic for simpler times.
b. One character that I particularly disliked this semester in a piece of literature was Daisy Buchanan from "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Daisy is characterized as shallow, self-absorbed, and materialistic. She is willing to sacrifice love and loyalty for wealth and social status, which ultimately leads to tragic consequences for herself and those around her. Daisy's lack of empathy and selfish actions make her a character that I found difficult to sympathize with.
