Starting materials: Light energy, water, and carbon dioxide
Products: Oxygen and sugar
Starting materials enter the leaf through the stomata, where carbon dioxide and water are absorbed. Light energy is captured by chlorophyll in the chloroplasts. During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide and water are converted into oxygen and sugar. Oxygen exits the leaf through the stomata, while sugar travels to other parts of the plant for energy.
