The information in the evolution unit I best understood was how natural selection leads to changes in species over time. I found it fascinating to learn about how traits that are most advantageous for survival and reproduction become more common in a population. The topic that was most challenging for me to understand was the concept of genetic drift and how it can affect gene frequencies in small populations.
A strategy I could use to explain how scientists use patterns in the fossil record and in embryo development as evidence for evolution is to create visual aids such as diagrams or charts to show the gradual changes in species over time. By visually representing these patterns, it can make it easier for others to see the evidence supporting the theory of evolution.
One topic in this unit I would like to learn more about is the mechanisms of speciation because I am curious to learn more about how new species can form over time. I find it intriguing to study the different factors that can lead to the divergence of populations and ultimately the creation of new species.
