Before you continue, note that the number 2e-1 is in scientific notation, also known as standard form. Used to write large or small numbers in another way. In the number 2e-1, the numbers are defined as follows:

2 = coefficient
e = 10 to the power of
-1 = exponent

The scientific notation 2e-1 is same as 2 x 10^-1 or 2 x 10-1. Thus, to get the answer to 2e-1 as a decimal, we multiply 2 by 10 to the power of -1.

= 2e-1
= 2 × 10-1
= 0.2

If your interpretation of 2e-1 is valid with a value of .2 , then the statement

-12(2e-1)=14
is a false statement.

I think it is just a simple equation with the variable e
thus ....
-12(2e-1)=14
-24e + 12 = 14
-24e = 2
e = -1/12
