What is z/-12 = -5

I know you need to multiply each side but, what do they mean by each side is it...
-12 x -5 and -12 x -12
or
z x -12 and -5 x -12

the -12's on the left cancel each other (numerator and denominator)

that leaves ... z = -5 × -12
