Why do people scaremonger (also known as fear mongering)?

I would like to know what happens if they do scaremonger about false claims.

Also, what are negative effects of scaremongering with bogus claims?

Thanks, but I've already visited wikipedia. It's practically my front page of the internet! I'm not looking for a link, moreover an explanation in short, but that's okay. Thanks anyway, I suppose.

wikipedia is not the only online resource.

I'm sure other web sites can provide as succinct or thorough treatment as you want.

If you simply put "fearmongering" into www.google.com, you'll undoubtedly find all the websites you've already found. BUT … skip them this time and go to the bottom of that results webpage β€” down to Searches related to fearmongering β€” and you should find "is fear mongering legal"

Click on that and check it out, just in case there are websites and webpages you hadn't already found.

You might also re-check that Wiki article and scroll down to the "See also" and "References" sections.

Finally β€” you can conduct searches at https://scholar.google.com to find discussions of just about any topic you want without all the hype that can come with standard Google searches.
