I have a back yard that measures approximately 70' wide by about 50' deep (away from the back of the house). I want to have new lawn put in the back yard — except for a 5' x 70' strip of ground cover (low plants) and a semicircular flagstone patio that is about 30' across and 12' deep.

What geometric shapes are involved?
How will you figure the area that needs new lawn?

One example of a modern practical use of geometry is in computer graphics and visual effects. Geometry is fundamental in creating and manipulating three-dimensional virtual objects and scenes in movies, video games, and other digital media.

In computer graphics, geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, and scaling are used to position and orient objects in virtual space. Geometric algorithms and calculations are employed to determine how light interacts with objects, resulting in realistic shading, reflections, and shadows.

Additionally, geometric concepts are vital for creating intricate and realistic models of objects and environments. Artists and designers use geometric principles to create 3D models of characters, buildings, landscapes, and more. These models are then rendered using geometric algorithms to create compelling visuals.

To find information on this topic in the future, I recommend using search terms such as "practical applications of geometry in modern technology," "geometry in computer graphics," or "geometry in visual effects." Additionally, you can search for specific industries such as animation, gaming, or special effects to find examples of how geometry is used in those fields.
