if you had 77 peanuts and increased that by 23 %

then you have 100% plus 23% = 123%
fraction = percent /100
so
multiply 77 by 1.23

If you had 77 and decreased by 23 %
that is 100% minus 23 % = 87%
so
multiply 77 by 0.87

The End.

or, going in reverse, if you had an amount of 52, which increased to 60, then

the raw change is 8
but the % change is 8/52 = 15.38%

Finding the percent of change involves comparing the difference between two values and expressing it as a percentage of the original value. Here is how you can calculate it:

1. Determine the original value (let's call it A) and the new value (let's call it B).
2. Find the difference between the new value (B) and the original value (A). Subtract A from B: B - A.
3. Divide the difference by the original value (A): (B - A) / A.
4. Multiply the result by 100 to convert it into a percentage: [(B - A) / A] * 100.

This will give you the percent change between the original value and the new value. If the result is positive, it means there was an increase; if it is negative, there was a decrease.

Let's go through an example to illustrate this process:

Suppose the original value (A) is 50 and the new value (B) is 75.

1. A = 50, B = 75.
2. Difference = B - A = 75 - 50 = 25.
3. (B - A) / A = 25 / 50 = 0.5.
4. Percent change = 0.5 * 100 = 50%.

Therefore, the percent of change from 50 to 75 is a 50% increase.
