1 & 2 - correct
#3 - I don't know.
4 - yes
5 - no

#3 - you are correct. Students protested segregation at a bowling alley, but the shootings by the Highway Patrol took place on campus.

Okay I know that 3 is correct so I will try and find the answer to number 3 and get back to ya Reed.

For #3 ... read carefully!

http://www.sciway.net/afam/orangeburg-massacre.html

For #5, residency is required everywhere, not just in South Carolina. If you are going to register and vote in any county or city, you must be a resident of that jurisdiction. The Voting Rights Act had nothing to do with that.

I know that 3 is right because my book says, "In February

1968, students from South Carolina
State began protesting the refusal of
a local bowling alley to permit African
Americans to bowl there. The
protest slowly grew, and the highway
patrol and National Guard were sent to the town
for crowd control. On February 8, the protestors
taunted the officers and threw rocks and bottles at
them. One officer fell after being struck by a bottle and
somewhere a shot was fired that resulted in the officers
firing on the crowd. Three young men were killed
by the officers. The event, now known as the
Orangeburg Massacre, shook up South Carolina and
resulted in African Americans becoming more actively
involved in the civil rights movement in the state."

For number 5 is it all-white primaries Reed?

I put #5's question into www.google.com and look what I found!

Read carefully.

So it is age requirements Writeacher?

Sorry not sure how my name was changed but that was me.

You have now guessed 3 different answers for #5. We will not check your work on that one again -- but I encourage you to go back to that website and read everything carefully. Everything!

My textbook says, "The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed

in August. It gave the federal government the power to ensure that voting
was fair and free of discrimination. It abolished mandatory literacy tests and
other efforts to prevent black people from voting." So I am going with literacy tests.

Thank you so much Writeacher and Reed!

You're very welcome!
