A worker uses 4 gray tiles for every 5 blue tiles that he uses.(a) If he uses 60 gray tiles, how many blue tiles does he use? (b) If he uses 540 tiles altogether, how many gray tiles does he use?

(a)

Ratio and proportion:
4 gray : 5 blue = 60 gray : x blue
To solve for n, we can rewrite it in fraction:
4/5 = 60/x
Cross-multiply:
4x = 60*5
4x = 300
x = 300/4
x = 75 blue tiles

(b)
Let n = some factor
since their ratio (4:5) is always the same, we can say that
4n + 5n = 540
9n = 540
n = 60
Thus,
4n = 240 gray tiles
5n = 300 blue tiles
For checking, the ratio of gray:blue tiles must be 4:5.

hope this helps~ `u`

(A) 60/ 4 = 15

15x5=75
(b) 4+5 =9
540/9=60
4x60= 240

Hop this helps 😄
